Maybe you’ve tried matcha tea before and maybe it didn’t taste too good – Starbucks matcha lattes are okay but not great – but that’s probably because the grade of tea was poor. Ceremonial grade is the best tasting as it’s slightly sweeter than the traditional grade. True ceremonial grade matcha should have a beautiful true green colour with not a hint of yellow.
I’ve never been one of those people who need a coffee in order to function in the morning. That’s because I don’t function very well in the mornings anyway and I’m a tea drinker. I’m not a big breakfast person though, but I still need something to kickstart me into the day. So that’s why I look to my matcha latte every morning.
So why should you drink matcha? Here’s why…
- It’s a really powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants eliminate free radicals, restoring the balance of the body and supporting the immune system.
- Matcha is a rich source of catechins. This antioxidant has an antibacterial and antiviral effect, also reducing blood cholesterol levels.
- An organic compound found in matcha called EGCG has a strong anti-tumor activity and is an antioxidant 100 times stronger than vitamin C.
- The L-theanine in matcha helps improve memory and concentration whilst also having a calming and relaxing effect – matcha and meditation is the best combo!
- Matcha accelerates the metabolism for four-times faster fat burning.
- The catechins in matcha also have antibiotic properties and strengthen the immune system.
I’ve tried a few matchas but I always go back to Moya Matcha premium grade. Their traditional grade is lovely too but the ceremonial is something else. Find them here : http://www.moyamatcha.co.uk
Of course you can drink your matcha straight up with some 80 degree temp water only, frothed with a chasen bamboo whisk. Or make it into a matcha lemonade for the warmer months (or two weeks, if you’re in the UK!). It’s so versatile but so worth it. Matcha for Life!
